this morning we had tutorials, showing what went well and what didnt go well with our assignment, we then carried on with our 4542 calculations assignment. We went on site, and started squaring of the building, checking the lengths and widths to see if everything is going to plan. We then started on our joists, by laminating the boundry joists together, these were the double joists, the joists that was on the outside was H3.2 treated was 390mm long and laminated on to a shorter joists that was H1.2 treated and was 385.5mm long. One end had to be flush to leave the other end left 45mm for another joists to fit in. When laminated the timber together, the nails have to be nailed in on a angle, the nails were nailed in 60mm in from the ends and 30mm in from the sides the nails were spaced apart 500mm, only the boundry joists were laminated. The joists that are under the two bathrooms and the laudry room have a H3.2 treated timber. This is because if there is a leak in the pipes and it starts to wet the joists, it wont damage the timber as much as it would on a H1.2.

  1. Hey Ola, some great info here, if you have any pics to support your work would be great. Visit each assignment and use the learning outcomes as a guideline for your blogs, for example, Buit 4542 Part 3 / Questions 3.1.1.- 3.2.1. Keep this good work up.
